We just got the the Q SPOT 150 LED in and just finished the pictures and the video… they are very impressive to say the very least!

http://www.djsproaudioandlighting.com/pr...ot+150+LED

We compared them to the Chauvet Intimidator Spot 2.0 HTI

http://www.djsproaudioandlighting.com/pr...ot+2.0+HTI

and the ADJ X Move

http://www.djsproaudioandlighting.com/pr...X+Move+LED

The Chauvet 150 LED features are excellent for the pricing…

REPLACABLE GOBOS!! First affordable led moving head with replaceable gobos that I am aware of.
Prism effect
Dimmer
Gobo shake
Great colors
Small in size
4 internal sound to light modes
Nice and bright.

Truly, I giving my honest opinion of this light. I was amazed of how bright it was in comparison to the 2.0 and the X move. Keeping in mind there is a difference between each unit and the price point so the comparisons are not exactly fair.

From here, I will let the pictures and the videos speak for themselves. Stand by..

Please think of us if you are considering a purchase.. these videos and pictures are time consuming. DJForums discounts apply.

Here are the manufacture specs:

9 or 11 -channel DMX-512 LED moving yoke
Pan: 530° / Tilt: 270°
Color wheel
8 colors + white
Rainbow color spin at variable speeds
Rotating gobo wheel with gobo shake
7 interchangeable, slot-n-lock gobos + open
Gobo wheel spin at variable speeds
3-facet static prism
Variable electronic strobe
Variable electronic dimmer (0 – 100%)
Remote fixture reset
255 user-programmable steps without DMX controller
Move-in-black for pan/tilt
Built-in automated programs
Built-in sound activated programs
High-powered, 20W (1000mA) LED
3-pin DMX
User-selectable pan/tilt ranges
Automatic pan/tilt correction
Reset to factory settings option
User-selectable basic or advanced operating modes

OK, here are the pictures…

On the first set of pictures, what you are looking at from left to right is the X move, the Q spot 150 LED in the center, and the Intimidator 2.0 HTI to the far right. On the second set of pictures shooting the floor, the light closest to you is the Intimidator 2.0 HTI. These are all arranged basically in a line which should give you a decent idea of the size of the spot. The lights are placed 42 inches off the ground and from the center of the light to the center of the “spot of light” on the floor is about 9 feet.

Chauvet MiN Spot/Wash, all the hype turns out to be true!

I will say, before I got the Mins in, I was a little concerned with all of the hype. If I have learned one thing about new releases, don’t believe it until the new product comes into the store and we can see all of the cool features for ourselves and I try and block out the reps claim that every new product will change the world, we have been disappointed many of times…. but not this time…

Well I got them in from Fed Ex.

Expecting 2…a Min Spot and a Min Wash my first question was where is the other box?

Then I realized, there were two in this box… are these things for real?

Opening the box up, I was pleasantly surprised by the feel of this light in my hand…

This may sound silly, but that first impression of how these things are built because they are so small was concern to me….. they had some weight to them, and I can tell right off they were not a cheep made plastic light.

The light weighs approximately 8.3 lbs and has dimensions of 6.8in x 6.8in x 9.8 in.

The light comes with a mounting bracket, cord, safety cable hanging ring and the manual. These lights have rubber feet so they can be hung, or set on a table or floor. I was still a bit nervous because I hadn’t plugged them in yet…

Again, pleasantly surprised when I plugged them in… No loud clatter, no mechanical pigeon sound…. (if you have moving heads you know what I am talking about). After a short moment of self testing, the light came on and it started to run in preprogram mode….notice, I didn’t say anything about setting any dip switches or doing anything other than plugging it in… it worked right out of the box.

I was in the brightly lit showroom and could see the effect of them on the wall and the ceiling… THESE THINGS ARE FOR REAL!!!

Now I moved to the lighting room to see them in action. As with any moving head, the video doesn’t really do them justice… but in watching the video you should be able to see they move smoothly and quickly, as well as slowly without any jerkiness.

Now for what you are asking… how bright are they? Well, that is always a tough comparison. The light source is a single 14w RGB LED… to date have only seen a 3 watt. We fired up a few halogen bulbs to compare it to… it is between a 150 and 250 halogen bulb.

By using the manual and the led readout, you can set the pan and tilt of this light.

Pan 540, 360, or 180 degrees.

Tilt 270, 180, or 90 degrees.

The Beam angle of the wash is 27 degrees.

The Beam angle of the spot is 13 degrees.

The spot has an easy to use manual focus.

Spot has 9 gobos plus open. NOT interchangeable gobos.

Colors…this was funny, I went to check the color wheel…THERE IS’T ONE!! RGB BABY!

I checked with Chauvet, in 5 channel DMX mode the colors available are preset… in 13 channel mode, the choices are endless. So it has true RGB mixing potential.

So, my impression, if you haven’t figured it out by now…WOW and WOW… These are great lights for the mobile who does small to mid size events… these will also be a fabulous install light for places that only have 8 to 9 foot ceilings to work with…. PLEASE keep in mind these will have limitations due to the beam angle and the relative brightness. The size and the weight is an OUTSTANDING plus… I am not a guy who takes a bunch of lights to my events… but I can easily see even lazy me taking 4 of these to an event and having a GREAT wash with up lighting available and a moving head light show… one t bar…four moving head washes and I am DONE!!! That is me, others will like the Min spot… or do a mix. Do I think these will do a gym… NO…. but for a 300 person wedding ….YOU BET… two thumbs and the Big Biff sign of approval!

I don’t have time to play with the DMX modes today, so everything you see is sound to light with no controller…. ENJOY!@! I will say the videos really don’t do them justice.. we tried several different angles and ways to shoot and couldn’t come up with the perfect shoot.

Well the new stuff keeps coming in, and I thought I would share my findings thus far….

First off the ADJ Mega Panel http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...D&cat=229.

Wow and double WOW….. yes I know it is more expensive than the Color pallet but ½ watt LEDs in this puppy and it BLOWS AWAY the Color Pallet. I “A” “B” ed them side by side and put them through my unscientific color test (this means I looked at them with my eyes instead of using the specs)… The Mega Panel was at least twice as bright it actually drowned out the Color pallet. It has more patterns and designs to go through also with up to 26 channels of DMX. So now the debate will begin, is it worth them money… My answer…. That depends… do you need something twice as bright as the color pallet?

Next little ditty that caught my eye was the Emerald Sky… DON’T count out lasers for you light show… this unit is awesome!! Great colors, great spread, bright, great movement… I LIKE!! http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...ky&cat=229

Pearl LED White http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...WH&cat=229

I never thought of a white light as wedding dance light until now… bright, great movement, awesome strobing, DMXable… two of these on a truss would definitely add to any light show, best of all since everything you own is most likely color, this will stand out as something new. Down fall, the movement is slightly jerky at slow speeds, so if you think of this to replace your mirror ball effect, you better look at it first… It is not terrible, but you can see the unit “jump” a bit as it turns slowly…neat thing we did, is to stop the turn altogether and fade between two of them… Would the problem in slow turning be a problem for me… No, but it is worth mentioning to those who need to know.

Globe Color http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...or&cat=229

I don’t know if a mobile will have a use for these, but they look awesome in the show room, we hung 2 of them above the counter. Bright, fast color change, cool strobing. We will definitely be putting these in installs. Worth mentioning for those who have elaborate truss systems or work in clubs/bars. Again something different….

American DJ Spectrum LED

Just received the first batch of ADJ Spectrums today.

Now that I have hooked it up I am comfortable talking about it.

Nice, light weight light, with LED read out on the back which means no dip switches… You can select, individual designs, sound to light, or pre programmed pattern scrolling, and of course DMX setting.

When I plugged it in the light actually spelled out American DJ Spectrum on the floor…my mouth drop, as I hoped I would be able to spell with this unit…sadly it is not possible, but it shows me what is coming in future LED technology.

The beam spread is around 30%. Another words, it is a tighter spread than the Vue product.

Colors…. VERY VERY NICE… much more defined and very deep Red, blues and greens. The lens on this unit is glass, and my guess, this is one of the reasons for the richness of the colors.

The pre programmed graphics are very fun… there are tunnel effects, line effects, stars, “falling snow”, and a running man, etc …which is a neat effect… the movements are very smooth and flowing. There are 25 different patterns.

I can’t decide which way I like this light better…showing the fun designs on the floor, or pointing it up more to show the beams. The choice will be yours…

Now for the question that everyone will ask…. How does it compare to a VUE 1 or VUE 2? First I will say they are two different effects…. The Vue has a wider spread (like a Mushroom effect) the Spectrum has a tighter spread (like a moon flower). The Spectrum can do patterns, the Vues can’t. The colors are much better on the Spectrum. The Spectrum is brighter than a Vue 1, but the Vue 2 is a little brighter.

The down fall will be for the DMX junkies, this unit only has 4 DMX channels that duplicate the settings on the back of the unit. You do not get to be color specific, only pattern specific. DMX Breaks down this way:

Channel 1 is for choosing one of the 25 patterns or sound to light
Channel 2 is for controlling the speed of the patterns
Channel 3 is a strobe function
Channel 4 is sound active sensitivity.

Shipping all orders within the next day.

More product available, limited quantities till August. American DJ is out already DJS Pro Audio and Lighting did buy a decent stock so we will have them when others may not. But, I wouldn’t wait too long.

Cool little piece.

I know everyone is on the LED band wagon, but I feel there is a use for this piece especially at the price.

This is basically an 8 channel DMX-512 moving yoke par can. It does not come with a bulb, not to be cheep, but so you can put the type of bulb you need for your application. Narrow spot, medium spot, or wide flood, 500w or 1000w. Our video and pictures show a 1000w medium spot. Since it is dimmable, I would opt for the 1000w and dim down when you have to. Four gel sheets are included from the picture you can see we opted for red.

This fixture can be used as a DMX follow spot, or in a light show, I can picture one on either side of a grand entrance doorway when a bridle party comes in. Giving that run way feel. I can’t tell you how many times someone has asked me if we rent the moving spot cans you see outside at a grand opening. This is not a weather proof fixture, but in the right application it could be used.

It is such a simple effect, but effective light and for the price, you can’t go wrong. A 1000w moving yoke wash for under 400 bucks? Need I say more?

Just arrived the long awaited wireless DMX!!!
DMXDFI
http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...uvetDMXDFI

Because there will be a lot of questions on this unit, I am including the link to the PDF manual from Chauvet too.
http://www.chauvetlighting.com/system/pd...dfi_UG.pdf

Ok, you wanted some real world tests on the Chauvet DMX-DFI?…. Well, we did them today and they worked better than I thought they would.

First, we took a Q wash led from the show room and put it in my office. Then we broke into the DMX chain about 4 fixtures in from our show room and inserted the wireless transmitter. We ran the XLR in and out of the transmitter to make sure the DMX signal would not be effected by running through the wireless box. No problem there….the 450 plus channels of the showroom kept up without a hiccup.

Next we hooked up the Q Wash in my office using the DMX DFI as a receiver. The signal traveled about 40 feet through 4 walls. The Q Wash LED responded flawlessly. I ran it for about 2 hours and kept checking on it… No interruptions that I noticed.

Then, Dennis and I wanted to see if we could crash the pack and see just how much information the pack could transmit. So, we hooked up the transmitter directly out of the Show Express box in the main show room and ran the receiver to the first head of our DMX chain. Result? NO INTERUPTION OF PROGRAMS. We even turned more heads on than usual and grabbed a few to control manually…. NO issues.

Feeling a little brave, we opened another DMX DFI and made it a receiver and hooked back up the Q Wash LED that was in my office. One transmitter out of the Show Express box, 2 receivers, one controlling the entire DMX universe in the show room, the other controlling the Q Wash LED in my office……once again, Everything worked perfectly…and still is, hours later… we still have a fully operational Death Star.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, during the day, we turned on 3 different wireless mics at the same time and hooked up a Wireless speaker for a demonstration. So in total we had 6 different wireless systems going, plus a retail store with florescent lights, several powered speakers, lotsa computers and monitors running, not to mention customer cell phones….we have yet to see this system fail

I give this product the Big Biff stamp of approval… I am impressed!

DJS PRO AUDIO & LIGHTING PRODUCT OF THE WEEK

Up for the DJ Supply review this week are 2 newer products we recently began carrying. The ECO LED Par 38 Lamp, and the ECO E14 JDR LED. Both are replacement lamp solutions for those drab par cans, with traditional screw in bases, you’ve been hiding in your closet. These lamps can be screwed into any standard ceramic light socket that runs off 110v.

First I’ll discuss the real world application I used with these 2 pieces. The venue I performed at New Year’s Eve, had tall ceilings with long draped linens streaming the walls. I set up four par 38 cans from Eliminator on the floor http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...natorPar38 and screwed in a red, blue, yellow, and green Par 38 led lamp and pointed them straight up. At about 10 feet up the beam was about 6-7 feet wide NO HEAT. As far as actual light and coverage was concerned, I set up a few ADJ P36 LED RGB right beside my other cans. I found when comparing the same color in both pieces, that the LED Par 38 bulb came in just under the P36LED as far as output. Blue seemed to be brighter in the LED Par 38 bulb. The diffused lens on the LED 38 obviously ate up some of its output, but on the other hand it had a wider beam spread, than the P36 LED. I would use this bulb in a 4 par can chase with a stand like the LS-50 from ADJ or similar http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...50&cat=30.

Now to put the E14 JDR LED to the test. I used a simple Eliminator Octo bar E141 8 bank par chaser http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...ar&cat=84. I used 2 Reds 2 Greens 2 Blues, and 2 yellows. I hung the fixture facing downward in front of my rig hitting some dance floor, but also still remaining visible to the dancers on the floor. The glass on the front of this fixture is actually molded around all the diodes, this made for some nice eye candy for the guests at the event. This specialty bulb draws attention because it looks cool. I will also say that some of the colors appear brighter than the others. Blue was a color that really stood out. On this lamp I found it is about half the brightness of a 50-watt reflector style bulb. The number one thing I noticed was not the effect of the lamp, but it was the guests staring at it. I would not use this bulb for color mixing, only as an accent or for eye candy. Either bulb would look cool in my recessed light cans at home too.

Anyone who has a standard color bar http://www.djsupply.com/proddetail.asp?p...bar&cat=84
or Octo bar should take a look at either bulb option.. NO HEAT..NO Bulb color fade….ever have the color burn off you color bulb with a puff of smoke because of the heat?

To sum up if you need an eye catcher to add a bit of color at 5-8 feet the E14 JDR LED is the piece. If you need a little more bang then I would step up to the LED Par 38.

Finally for those who like to see it I will include some tech specs on these two pieces:

E14 JDR LED:

-32 LED diodes per fixture
-Approx. 50,000 hrs Life
-Voltage: 110
-Power Draw: 0.9-1.3 Watts
- Low Heat Operation

LED Par 38 Lamp
-70 LED diodes per fixture
-Approx. 50,000 hrs life
-Voltage: 110
-Power Draw: 0.8 Watts
-Low Heat Operation

Both led bulbs are available in Red, Green, Yellow, Blue and White. Applications include: recessed lighting fixtures, color projection on walls or other surfaces, truss warming, backlighting a glass or smoked semi-transparent surface, and anything else you can dream up.

Not really a review, just got these in and thought they were cool eye candy. 32 LED squares. Sound to light, or DMX. Very visual, 25 built in programs, I don’t even have all of the programs on the video, takes way too long. These can be set vertically with a LTS-6 stand or horizontally as you see it in the pictures and videos. Linkable via DMX.. What you see is one system which is hinged and folds up and latches like a suitcase for transport.
Expensive? A little, but keep in mind what led is still costing…
Is it for everyone? No, but there are a lot of guys who have a very “visual” set up. It definitely is the first thing you see when you walk into our show room, and everyone stares at it for a long time…. ENJOY!
